Alberta Innovates Bio Solutions: 10 Years After the Mad Cow Disease Discovery in Alberta - The Science Legacy

EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - May 17, 2013) - The Alberta Prion Research Institute will mark the legacy of prion science in Alberta at a special event on May 21, 2013.

Media are invited to attend this special event and a tour of a Biosafety Level 2+ containment lab at the Centre for Prions and Protein Folding Diseases. Due to biosafety regulations, equipment is not permitted in the containment lab. A digital SLR camera will be available to the media for photos inside the lab.

Speaking at the event will be Shirley McClellan, former Deputy Premier of Alberta and Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development in 2003 and APRI-funded researchers who are conducting innovative research into BSE and other prion and protein misfolding diseases.
