Privacy4Patriots Applauds Probe Revealing IRS’ Inappropriate Scrutiny of Conservative Groups

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

Nashville, Tenn. (PRWEB) May 15, 2013

According to the Wall Street Journal and other media outlets, a government probe has confirmed what conservative groups and Republican lawmakers have been claiming for some time now.

Blaming its “lower-level workers” and saying that the workers’ actions were not “politically motivated,” the Internal Revenue Service is now admitting that it inappropriately targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny, approximately one year after then-IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman told a congressional committee that the IRS was not targeting conservative groups.

Privacy4Patriots, the publisher of an upcoming report on how to protect one’s privacy, supports the government probe that led to the findings and questions how the targeting of politically conservative groups could be anything other than politically motivated.

The Wall Street Journal article claims that a high-ranking IRS official knew as early as mid-2011 that conservative groups were being inappropriately targeted for additional scrutiny, which was nearly one year prior to Shulman’s denial. The article also states that many of the targeted groups were asked for lists of their donors and other sensitive information.

Privacy4Patriots believes that organizations have the right to protect their donor lists, regardless of their political stances, and that conservative groups deserve the same privacy rights that all others do.
