Quorn Encourages Sustainably Grown Meat Alternatives to Offset Global Warming

Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) April 12, 2013

On April 12, Quorn, a healthy food advocate responds to an article published in The New York Times, which discusses a global temperature increase that has not been seen since before the last Ice Age.

According to [The New York Times, global temperatures are warmer than they were 4,000 years ago, most likely caused by human activity. Though there was a similar warm period, researchers at Oregon State University say this time it’s unique and temperatures will continue to rise in this century. This modern rise of temperature could actually kill off many species because of its rapid increase, New York Times reports.

Dr. Michael E. Mann, a researcher at Pennsylvania State University, says the increase of temperature could leave human civilization with fewer resources. In the article he says, “We and other living things can adapt to slower changes. It’s the unprecedented speed with which we’re changing the climate that is so worrisome.”

David Wilson, a representative from healthy food manufacturer Quorn, says this has a lot to do with what we eat and how we cook it. He says cooking meat produces a lot of greenhouse gases that could be related to the rising temperatures and global warming. “If we continue down this path, we might run out of food and actually sabotage ourselves by ruining the Earth,” he says. “It’s been said recently that in order to keep up with food demands, we would have to switch to a mainly plant-based diet.”

Instead of eating meat, Wilson says people should switch to meat alternative products. “Quorn products are delicious and taste better than meat,” he says. “They have the same consistency as your favorite meat products, but are sustainably-grown and made from plants. Eating less meat is not only better for the environment, it’s also better for your health.”

Looking for a healthy alternative to meat? Unlike other meatless food companies, Quorn uses mycoprotein: a healthy, naturally occurring alternative protein source that replicates the taste and texture of meat, while being significantly lower in saturated fats and calories. Quorn Foods offer a wide range of products, including ready-to-serve meals, snacks, and food for your barbecue -- as well as ingredients to make your own nutritious, meat-free dishes from scratch. The wonderful taste of Quorn's meatless meals lets you experience the foods you love without sacrificing nutrition.
