Maryland Legislators Debate Pit Bull Bill; Dog Bite Attorney Jeff Nadrich Responds

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) February 27, 2013

Maryland legislators are currently debating a bill that will assess whether or not pit bulls should be designated as inherently aggressive, this according to a new ABC report. Last year, the Court of Appeals, Maryland’s highest court, ruled that pit bulls are dangerous by nature, a move that has angered some pit bull lovers and activists.

“Any owner should be responsible for their pet and make sure they use discretion when they're letting their pet off leash,” Jenny Eddinger of Baltimore County told ABC.

Another local resident told ABC, “I think that any dog that's not properly trained and whose owner doesn't take precautions can be a dangerous dog, regardless of breed."

On Tuesday, the measure was introduced to the House floor, according to The Associated Press. The article points out that the bill would end discrimination against pit bulls by labeling all breeds as potentially aggressive. Delegates are expected to vote on the measure in the next few weeks.

Jeff Nadrich, A California dog bite attorney, recently opined about the measure on his blog, saying “The bill is especially good news for pit bull owners. In addition to ending discrimination against the breed, this bill would make it easier for renters to own dogs that are traditionally stigmatized as being aggressive. According to ABC, landlords could only be sued by a dog bite victim if said victim can prove the landlord should have known the dog was aggressive.”

Nadrich further points out that “any breed of dog has the potential for aggression, and dog owners should be extremely vigilant about socializing, disciplining and monitoring their pets, especially those pets that show aggressive tendencies.”

Nadrich urges all dog bite victims to seek medical attention at once, even if the injuries are minimal, and then to consult a qualified dog bite attorney.
