Early in the morning on January 30th, 2013, the West Side Market suffered a fire. Thankfully, no lives were lost and no major structural damage was caused by the blaze. However, a great deal of smoke damage has shut down operations at Cleveland's historic landmark. While only four stands need to be rehabilitated, each of the more than 100 vendors has lost inventory, materials, and precious Super Bowl Sunday sales.
Late Monday night, Michael Symon’s business team in Cleveland met with local web development firm e-Business Express. In their meeting they discussed the concept of a website geared to benefit those vendors affected by the West Side Market fire. Together the two sides collaborated and finalized a plan to aid those in need.
Over night the web development team designed and developed the donation website for The Michael Symon D. Foundation. Greg McNeil, founder and CEO of e-Business Express said, “It’s a great cause and we were delighted to get involved.”
Cleveland has responded to Michael Symon’s plea for help. Since the launch of his new website supporting the West Side Market vendor relief efforts, individuals and businesses have streamed to the website to make donations. Fueled by social media, the new site boasted over 3,000 visitors in the first 12 hours.
