Got Stamps? Don’t Know What To Do with Them? America’s Stamp Club Has the Answer — Come to the Stamp Show and Find Out

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

Bellefonte, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) January 13, 2013

America’s Stamp Club is on the way to Louisville for its annual Winter Stamp Show. The show will be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center, 221 S. Fourth Street. The doors open daily at 10 a.m. and admission is free. Friday and Saturday the show runs from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Don’t know what to do with Uncle Charlie’s stamp collection? Visit the “What’s In Your Attic!” Booth at the show. The experienced collectors manning this booth will offer advice — whether or not to donate the collection, contact a dealer or auction house to sell the collection, or to just keep it in the family as a memento or for a future collector. The advice is free, keep in mind this is not meant to be a formal appraisal.

There is something for everyone at the show from the experienced collector to the novice collector to the non-collector — exhibits, dealers, specialty collecting groups, seminars, and much more.

What to do at the show —

  • Attend the Wedding Cake First Day Ceremony — A First Day Ceremony is the official unveiling of a new stamp release. The United States Postal Service will issue the 2013 Wedding Cake stamp at noon on Friday, January 18 in Room L4 of the Kentucky International Convention Center. As a special treat, the Postal Service in Louisville is hosting a Wedding Cake Stamp-Off competition, inviting local bakeries to share their unique wedding cake designs featuring a USPS theme. Judging will begin at 11 a.m. in the lobby of the convention center (4th Street entrance). Judges will include Chef David Dodd, director for Sullivan University’s National Center for Hospitality Studies, John Carlos White, publisher and editor-in-chief of Food and Dining Magazine, and Alice Columbo, former assistant food critic for The Courier-Journal. During the ceremony the winner of the contest will be announced. Local dignitaries also will participate in the ceremony. Following the unveiling of the Wedding Cake stamp, there will be a Second Day of Sale Ceremony for the Apple stamps.
  • See Rare Stamps on Display — The “Inverted Jenny” is the nation’s most famous upside down airplane. Learn how the stamp took a wrong turn.
  • Get Into Collecting in the Stamp Zone — The Zone is a kids-only fun area — games, puzzles, activities, stamps, and more stamps. (http://www.stamps.org/Young-Philatelists)
  • “Shop ’til You Drop” — Dealers will be selling stamps from around the world, hobby supplies, and other stamp-related materials — postcards, items of postal history, illustrated envelopes, etc. Prices will range from a dime to a dollar and up. Dealers also will be buying. (http://www.stamps.org/SS-Dealers)
  • Buy Stamps from the United States Postal Service — The USPS will have a stamp counter, merchandise area, and First Day cancels.
  • Meet Stamp Designer, Chris Calle — Chris has designed stamps for the USPS and the Marshall Islands. He has created the illustrated souvenir cover for this year’s show. Chris will be located at the APS Booth during the show.
  • Dive Into Stamps By the Bucket — A huge pile of stamps and a pail equals a bucketful of fun for both children and adults.
  • Learn About Collecting — New to the hobby? Don’t know where to begin? A stop at the Beginner’s Booth is a must. For a more in-depth learning opportunity, sign up for Stamp Collecting 101.
  • Stop at America’s Stamp Club Booth — Staff members of the American Philatelic Society are ready to greet all attendees, share information about the Society, and answer questions.
