In the video, Maddison is seen on the bike, riding it around Tahiti. The video is four-minutes long, and since being uploaded it has gotten more than 4 million views and more than 60,000 thumbs-up, as well as thousands of comments. The bike just rips right across the water.
The video is titled Pipe Dream, and throughout the clip, the DC Shoes’ sponsored rider is seen carving the faces of the waves. At the end of the video, Maddison takes on a very large wave and at first it looks as if he isn’t going to emerge from it, but eventually he does appear, while the wave is still breaking.
Maddison said that during the stunt he was terrified and he was trembling in his boots. However, he added that he made his bed and he was willing to lay in it.
This isn’t the first time Maddison has performed an extreme stunt that has gotten widespread attention. He once completed a jump onto the top of the Arc de Triomphe in Las Vegas, and he also leaped right over the Corinth Canal over in Greece.
Jeff Taylor, DC Shoes executive, said that this project was one of the most ambitious ones the company has ever tried to produce. The feat was two years in the making, and Taylor said that Maddison is both talented and a visionary.
