Two dead as car hits crowd at Texas SXSW festival

A car ran through barricades and into a crowd at a music and film festival in the US state of Texas early Thursday, killing two people and injuring 21, police told AFP.

The driver is in custody after the incident at South By Southwest festival in the state capital Austin.

The barricades were temporary ones set up for the festival, and the crowd that was struck numbered in the hundreds, Austin police spokesman Lt. Brian Moon said.

Those hurt sustained injuries ranging from critical to minor, he said.

The incident is under investigation.
