US President Donald Trump will "look forward" to meeting with his newly-elected Mexican counterpart, which may produce "surprising results," National Security Advisor John Bolton said Sunday.
Mexicans were voting on Sunday to elect a new president, with the winner widely expected to be Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, a leftist who has vowed to "put (Trump) in his place."
"I think President Trump will follow through with the same pattern he's used with other foreign leaders. He'll look forward to meeting with him," Bolton said on Fox News Sunday.
"Having the two leaders get together may produce some surprising results," he said.
They face various issues, including Trump's anti-immigration policy, which led to more than 2,000 children being separated from their parents after crossing the US-Mexico border, and his criticism of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which the US, Mexico and Canada are renegotiating at Trump's insistence.
