Teen rescues police officer from burning car

By Owen Weldon     Nov 9, 2014 in World
Philadelphia - Seventeen-year-old Joe Chambers saw sparks flying from the bottom of a police car, and he knew the cop trapped inside didn't have that long to escape.
The incident occurred near Chambers' sister's home in Grays Ferry on Saturday night. Chambers heard a loud crashing sound and discovered the officer's vehicle. That's when the volunteer firefighter jumped into action, according to Philly.
Chambers ran down the block toward the burning vehicle, which collided with a pickup truck.
According to NY Daily News, when he arrived at the scene of the accident, he saw officer Mark Kimsey trapped, and unable to move.
Kimsey did manage to report the accident, but he was slipping in and out of consciousness as Chambers called for help to get him out.
A neighbor, Dante Johnson, 24, arrived to help Chambers.
Kimsey was pulled out from the window of the burning car. Chambers said the door was slammed and it wouldn't open, and the car caught fire.
Other witnesses helped the driver from the pickup truck by pulling him out of his vehicle.
Both the officer and the passenger of the truck were taken to the hospital. Kimsey is currently in stable condition after he suffered head trauma from the airbag being deployed. He also suffered burns to his legs.
The driver of the pickup is also in stable condition after suffering head trauma.
