The unfortunate incident took place at her dentist’s office last Tuesday.
The parents of Galleger, 17, shared her battle on her CaringBridge website. The parents said that the surgery was going fine, but things went wrong at the end. Her blood pressure went up and then her pulse dropped. CPR was performed by the doctor, as well as emergency responders.
Later, Sydney was transferred to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital. That us where doctors told her parents that she may have been suffering from an unknown heart condition.
Diane Gallager, Sydney’s mother, said that they were devastated over what happened and they are still trying to make sense of everything. Diane said the doctors told delivered the most devastating news they have ever received at 3 a.m. last Friday.
This past Saturday, the boys lacrosse team at her school decided to tape Sydney’s initials on their helmets, and the girls placed ribbons in their hair to memorialize her as they won the state championship. Other classmates came to terms with their sorrow by using social media.
