article imageSyrian insurgents bomb Aleppo hotel

By Paul Iddon     May 8, 2014 in World
Syrian opposition insurgents have blown up a hotel that is often used by Syrian army units currently fighting against opposition groups in Aleppo.
The Jerusalem Post reports that the rebels destroyed the hotel by planting and detonating explosives underneath it.
It was the Carlton Hotel which is located right next to the medieval citadel in Aleppo.
Reuters also tells us that the explosion also caused damage to nearby buildings.
AFP quotes the UK-based opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group which said that, "The explosion that was heard in Aleppo's Old City was caused by explosives planted by Islamist battalions in a tunnel beneath the Carlton hotel, which was occupied by regime troops."
