Suspected home invader shot and killed by 11-year-old boy

A spokesperson for the St. Louis County Police Department said the incident occurred just before 2:30 p.m., over on the 10,000 block of Hallwood Drive.

The 11-year-old boy was inside the home when two suspects attempted to break in. The boy picked up a loaded gun and fired off a shot, which struck the 16-year-old. The teenager was pronounced dead on the scene.

One neighbor said the boys were on the front porch arguing, and then the young boy pulled a gun and shot the 16-year-old. However, police said that the boy was shot in the head while the unnamed teenager broke into the home.

The neighbor also said the teenager never once went inside the house, and they were going back and forth, arguing loud.

The second suspected home invader was caught after they fled the scene.

Police said the 11-year-old, as well his four-year-old sister, were home alone, but they did not suffer any injuries. The mother was said to be cooperating with the investigation.

It was the mother’s gun that was used to shoot and kill the teenager, and she purchased the gun because her home has been the target of a number of burglaries in the past. She bought the gun for protection.
