Suspect sought after North Carolina college shooting

-

One person was shot and reportedly killed Monday on a community college campus in the southern US state of North Carolina, and the suspected gunman was still on the run, officials said.

"Lock Down. This is not a drill. The entire campus is under lockdown," said Wayne Community College in a notice on its website.

A Goldsboro police official told AFP by telephone that there had been one "victim," but he was unable to confirm whether that individual had died.

The Goldsboro News-Argus newspaper quoted city manager Scott Stevens as confirming that one person had been killed in the early morning shooting.

Police issued an alert for a white, five-foot-11 (1.8 meter) male suspect with a tattoo beneath one eye.

Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina has more than 4,000 full-time students, as well as several thousand part-time students.
