article imageSome gas pumps return to 1984 prices in Alberta

By Paula Kirman     Oct 9, 2014 in World
Edmonton - Shell Canada celebrated 30 years of refining oil in Alberta by returning some of their pumps to 1984 prices around the province.
Shell tweeted locations of stations throughout Alberta offering the special deal throughout the day on October 8.
Gas prices in Alberta have been at around the $1.19/litre mark. Back in 1984, prices were around 39.9 cents per litre.
Shell began announcing station locations in Edmonton at 8 in the morning on Twitter, giving a 10-minute head's up for each station. 1984 prices at each participating station were maintained for one hour.
As expected, cars flocked to the participating Shell stations and lined up to take advantage of the deal. People posted photos of themselves on Twitter holding their gas receipts.
The cheap gas deals continued throughout the day. Prices at the pump are back to normal today.
The year 1984 was significant in Edmonton for another reason yesterday: the Stanley Cup winning line up of the Edmonton Oilers from that year was in town for a reunion. Wayne Gretzkey, Grant Fuhr, Glenn Anderson, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Paul Coffey, and coach Glen Sather attended the media event yesterday.
