Political newcomer Miro Cerar wins Slovenia snap polls

The party of Slovenian political newcomer Miro Cerar, a law professor, won snap elections Sunday with 36.9 percent of the vote, exit polls released by private POP TV showed.

The main centre-right Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), whose leader Janez Jansa is serving a two-year prison term, garnered 19.2 percent while outgoing prime minister Alenka Bratusek's party barely entered parliament with 4.7 percent, the poll said.
