Russian protest leader Udaltsov jailed for 4.5 years for ‘mass riots’

A Russian court on Thursday jailed opposition leader Sergei Udaltsov for four and a half years for organising "mass riots" ahead of Vladimir Putin's inauguration as president in 2012.

Judge Alexander Zamashnyuk said that Udaltsov and his political ally had both been sentenced to "a total of 4.5 years" in a corrective labour camp "taking into consideration the severe nature of the crime."
