article imageRapist nabbed 3 years later after friend request to victim

Palma De Mallorca - Three years ago a French woman was attacked and raped on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Her attacker was never found, until now, when he sent the victim a friend request on a social network.
During July 2010, the victim and a friend met two young men in a nightclub while on vacation in Mallorca. The two women happened to meet the men again a few days later and decided to take a walk with them to the nearest beach.
At that point, one of the men attacked the French woman and raped her. The woman went to the police, but as she was only able to give them the man's first name, they were unable to find her attacker.
However, on Monday the Spanish daily newpaper Diario de Mallorca has reported that the woman has been in touch with the police again. She had received a friend request from her attacker via a social media website. Once she pointed the police to the man's profile photos, they were able to match the physical description of the rapist.
Police authorities in Mallorca then got in touch with Interpol, after they determined the man was a Slovakian citizen. Interpol contacted the Slovakian police who then confirmed that the suspect's mother had been visiting Mallorca with her children (including the young man) at the time of the attack.
A European arrest warrant was requested by the Slovak authorities who have since arrested the alleged rapist.
