Radio show to discuss Virginia dog abuse case on Sunday

By Ernest Dempsey     Mar 2, 2014 in World
Attorney Matt Albert will discuss on radio the alarming case of dog abuse in Wythe County, Virginia, which is arousing growing concern from the public due to inaction on behalf of the authorities.
An Examiner report by Orlando-based writer and animal rights activist Denise Carey-Costa is drawing attention to a case of terrifying abuse of a group of dogs kept as pets in Wythe County, Virginia, in extremely miserable condition. The story tells that Mike Thomas of Wythe County, VA, has kept 11 dogs in deplorably unhealthy conditions possible at his home for the past five years.
Costa’s story reports that Tamira Thayne of Dogs Deserve Better visited the dogs on the owner’s property and made a video of the dogs, which has been posted to YouTube. It shows caged dogs appearing desperate to get out of captivity with one dog chewing on the fence. By Thayne’s account, she sensed a strong stench of urine and feces coming from the cage in which the dogs have been kept. The owner is reportedly denying of dogs being in bad condition and even threatening people from any move to help the dogs out of captivity.
What is being regarded as worse by Costa and others concerned, though, is the failure of the local authorities in taking any action to help the dogs, despite the repeated calls for intervention by those concerned about the safety of the dogs since one of the dogs has been reported to have died in this captivity due to the flea-infested surrounding and resulting illness. Animal rights advocates at this point are concerned to the point that they also want the authorities to be held accountable for not taking any action while the dogs rot in captivity and filthy living conditions.
Meanwhile the Facebook page Free the Dogs in the Box has posted the news of some new positive developments in the case, though it has not shared the nature or details of the developments. A post on the page wrote, “Stick with us and we will update you as soon as we are able to.” It also informs that The Lexus Project, Legal Defense for Dogs attorney Matt Albert along with another team member, Terry Hamm, will discuss the case in question at Blog Talk Radio on Sunday at 1 pm EST.
