Pistorius case: Live Report

-

07:36 GMT - Delay? - We are back under way in court.

Nel is proposing to finalise the cross-examination of Pistorius today and then have the case adjourned, returning on May 5.

"We have matters to deal with but there is also certain personal things that we have arranged that have been arranged all before this trial started that we would like to deal with," says Nel.

The judge says she will consider this application and give an answer tomorrow morning.

07:30 GMT - Sister - Pistorius's sister Aimee has arrived in court, wearing a beige blazer, and is giving her older brother Oscar a hug.

She pats him on the back and looks like she is giving him a pep talk.

If many South Africans haven't had much sympathy for Pistorius, they've had it for Aimee, who has been a loyal supporter of her brother, appearing every day in court.

07:26 GMT - Preparations - Pistorius is already in the courtroom ahead of his testimony, sitting beside the dock with a friend, deep in conversation.

His lawyer Brian Webber is talking with Pistorius patriarch Uncle Arnold, the head of family, says AFP's Stephanie Findlay, who is in the courtroom.

Pistorius's estranged father, Henke -- who the athlete says he has not seen in years -- has not appeared in court since the trial started.

07:21 GMT - Welcome to AFP's Live Report on Oscar Pistorius's continuing evidence in his trial over the killing of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine's Day last year.

Paralympian Pistorius has been facing an intense grilling from prosecutor Gerrie Nel in Pretoria.

Nel is seeking to find inconsistencies in Pistorius's account of the night he fired four shots through a locked bathroom door at his home, killing her.

Pistorius claims he fired the shots accidentally and he feared there was an intruder behind the door.
