Op-Ed: IS says Paris attacks ‘The first of the storm’

IS has said the Paris attack was the “first of the storm” while referring to the murder of defenceless people as acts of heroism. Pretty much business as usual. IS media also routinely accuses the West and everybody else (known as “Crusaders,” nice to know they’ve been keeping up to date) of attacking civilians, mosques, hospitals, etc.
You have to read this language to believe it even exists. This is from SITE, an intelligence website:
In a blessed attack for which Allah facilitated the causes for success, a faithful group of the soldiers of the Caliphate, may Allah dignify it and make it victorious, launched out, targeting the capital of prostitution and obscenity, the carrier of the banner of the Cross in Europe, Paris…
As you can see, the material from IS and related jihadist sources is well worth reading for its endless recitals of jihadi clichés. This is Goebbels reborn. IS supporters are “celebrating” the attacks in Paris.
Paris actually is a game changer. That a few attackers could do so much damage, and worse, give encouragement to others to carry out similar attacks means the Phony War on Terror is over. When attacks are elsewhere, people tend to be less responsive. When it’s on home soil, it’s war.
They’ve claimed responsibility for the attacks, but let’s face it — nobody needed to be told who did it. The world had already decided who did it. Nobody else on Earth acts like this, beyond any reason or suggestion of sanity. Al Qaeda’s dream of turning the world against Islam is now effectively a reality. They created the template which all terrorists since have followed. High profile attacks against defenceless people, maximum carnage, and online propaganda afterwards.
If you’ve ever watched the patterns of terrorist attacks, Paris was a textbook, obviously premeditated, attack by three “teams.” There was nothing original about it but the scale of it. First multiple bombings of innocent people, just like in the videos. Then a massacre by gunmen of concert goers, just like in the videos. You’d swear it was a newsreel or an IS propaganda training video. The carnage is the main result, the “media product” for the herd.
Yes, this is war.
There’s no point of contact or possible agreement with these people. There’s nothing to negotiate. The question now is what to do about it. We’re now at the start of our 15th year of these atrocities. What can really be done to stop terrorism? A lot, but it’s basically already a global war, anyway you look at it.
In theory, calm consideration and restraint are the proper and ethical responses. In practice, allowing politicians to dither has just got more people killed and maimed while terrorists make millions and enslave people. After Paris, no more playing nice.
“Restraint” has outlived its shelf life. There is no question of tolerating this situation any longer, or tolerating the failure to end it.
This situation could get out of hand very quickly. Governments tend to forget that people don’t necessarily wait to be told to fight a war. Revenge attacks are foreseeable. It’s not hard to imagine mobs on the rampage killing every Muslim they see. It’ll be “Muslims Raus!” in every Western country on Earth, at this rate.
The trouble is that nobody will give a damn. The brutalization process is normal in war. Whenever people have an excuse for genocide, they use it. That’s what the IS terrorists are doing with “unbelievers,” for example. Retaliation could include terror attacks on Muslims, IS, AQ, or others. They’re not the only ones who can make IEDs, or use AKs. Bereaved people, in particular, like the famous Black Widows of Chechnya, are often attackers. It’s a progression of logic, not good logic, but it’s typical of wars between peoples since time began.
So – What can be done? Maybe these things should be done, maybe not, depending on your point of view, but this is what’s possible:
Law – There is no reason for people, groups, or nations who commit crimes against humanity to claim, let alone be given, the protection of law. “Play nice” has never worked against terrorism. No protection for terrorists, anywhere on Earth. Anything depicting any terrorist group or its images should be in the same category as de-Nazification in Germany.
Sovereignty – Any nation which harbors or shows support for terrorists should be penalized severely, for a very long time. There’s also no reason to respect the borders or properties of countries which are serial supporters of terrorists and terrorism ideologies. The “border wars” excuse for tolerating nearby groups is no longer acceptable.
Trade – No international trade, business of any kind, or travel should be allowed with any country which tolerates terrorism or terrorist teachings. No food, no medicine, no technology. You want to go back 1000 years? It can be arranged.
Religion – Religion is no excuse for murder. Any religion which acts as a training ground for terrorism and includes mass murder as a hobby of its parishioners can be banned.
Deportation regardless of reciprocal arrangements with other countries – The obvious method for moving terrorists, sympathizers and their supports.
No refugees at all, regardless of treaties – Period. Many terrorists in other countries have been refugees or children of refugees. The “no refugees” approach also puts enormous economic strain on the countries harbouring the terrorist groups. They’ll get the message.
Military attacks – No limits on targeting terrorist groups wherever they are. Hiding behind civilians is as much of a crime as shooting them.
Internal defence – Properly trained, disciplined, armed responses around the world, as good and as quick as a fire brigade.
Public awareness – The terrorists have so far encountered no initial resistance to attacks from their victims. If they had, the death toll might be a lot lower. I’m not talking about gutless rednecks claiming to be heroes, but common sense self-defence options. No more of this sheepish crap telling people to do whatever some brainwashed nut with a gun says. You’ll get killed anyway. Attack. Better to die like a human being than a sheep. Meanwhile, the famously scatterbrained global media should try to get across the information that this is not a rehearsal.
Politics – Fix this now, or you’re all out of office. Not 10 years from now, now. This is a war. Doesn’t matter if you’re left, right, or just have a lousy sense of direction. Fix it. You’re not getting paid for failure, morons. It’s also about time the Global Rest Home for the Overpaid, Politically Smug, and Useless served some purpose.
The question is this — do you want another 15 years of this crap, yes or no? The world’s too small for it any more.
