Mexican authorities arrested the alleged driver of a truck that plowed into a crowd of pilgrims last week killing 27 people, regional authorities said.
The driver, who witnesses said ran from the vehicle as it headed for the crowd, was captured on the border of the Zacatecas region, where the crash occurred, and brought before a public prosecutor.
The dump truck struck a religious procession in the north-central town of Mazapil, injuring dozens in addition to the 27 dead.
Hundreds of pilgrims were marching toward the 18th century San Gregorio Magno church when the dump truck, carrying sand, slammed into cars and people.
Around ten of those killed were from the village of Santa Rosa in northern Mexico, which only has 100 residents.
