In a graphic posting on Twitter Abdullah AlOmar posted the horrific death of Japanese journalist Kenji Goto.
Goto was killed by a masked man said to be Furgan.
Goto, 47, was a freelance video journalist but he wasn’t in Syria covering a story when he was captured by the Islamic State in October 2014. In August Goto’s friend Haruna Yukawa was captured by the group in Syria. In an attempt to free his friend Goto entered Turkey and was reported missing in October. On January 20, 2015 he was in a video released by IS demanding $200 million from the government of Japan. On January 24 a video of the beheading of Yukawa was released with Goto holding a picture of the event. During this video IS said they would spare his life if Sajida Mubarak Atrous al-Rishawim, a woman who had attempted to be a suicide bomber at the 2005 Amman bombings, would be released. The video said that Goto had 24 hours left to live.
During his life Goto worked to bring a voice to those who had been silenced. He wrote on the horrors of war, the genocide of people and the ravages of disease. His video and book, Welcome to Our School featured children talking about their love of learning. His pen gave a humanitarian view of the world to his audience.
Goto is survived by his parents, wife and two children.
