Victoria - CANADA DAY marks the Union of the British North American Colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a Federation of four provinces including Ontario and Quebec on July 1, 1867.
We Japanese worldwide salute Canada on this auspicious day, which also marks the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the Japan Self-Defense Forces. This particular Canada day is especially dear to our hearts, because for the first time in recent history we Japanese can help to protect Canadians, as Canada and MARPAC have so generously protected us for six decades.
This Canada Day marks the first day of our full partnership with Canada and the other Nations of the Pacific Rim as sovereign powers dedicated to the preservation of global peace and security.
In Japan and around the world, we celebrate with you, and wish you all happiness.
