Godzilla-themed hotel to open in Japan

Hotel Gracery in Tokyo is set to open on April 24, the Verge reports, and the unusual building is now showing the public what the hotel will look like, inside and outside.

The hotel, sitting above the famous Toho Cinema in Shinjuku, will apparently install a giant Godzilla head on its lower roof deck as part of its grand opening, and will offer some Godzilla-themed rooms to couples and individuals.

Kotaku explains the hotel will have three special Godzilla rooms.

For couples, there is the self-explanatory Godzilla Room, which goes for 39,800 yen (US$ 334) on weekdays and 49,800 yen ($417) on weekends and holidays. The room goes all out on the monster memorabilia, with a giant hand reaching into the room, a Godzilla statue near the window and tons of posters and pictures.

There are also two rooms for single occupants called the Godzilla View Room, which is a bit more sparse — minus the window featuring Godzilla staring at you. At least you can feel safe knowing he’s protecting you.

This room goes for 15,000 yen ($125) a night.

Godzilla, perhaps one of the most famous Japanese entertainment creations, first appeared in movies in 1954 and has seen numerous remakes and reboots over the years, most recently last year’s effort directed by Gareth Edwards. The Daily Mail notes that Godzilla has over the years — on screen of course — crushed most of Toyko’s major buildings including Tokyo Tower and the Parliament building.
