On Tuesday an explosive device placed next to a gas can exploded in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the building that houses the Colorado NAACP around 10:45 a.m. The gas can did not explode, reducing the damage to the building. While it is not clear if NAACP was the target of the bomb Henry Allen, Jr., president of the local chapter told NBC News, “Apparently we have the attention of someone that knows we are working for civil rights for all,” he said. “That is making some people uncomfortable, so therefore they feel the need to target.”
The building also houses a hair salon, Mr. G’s Hair Design Studio. Initial investigation revealed little actual damage to the building.
Police are now looking for a person of interest, a white balding male believed to be in his 40s. He may be travelling in a white pick-up truck with missing or covered license plate according to a FBI statement.
“I’m thankful that none of the volunteers or employees of the Colorado Springs NAACP were injured in today’s apparent bombing,” US Rep. Doug Lamborn said in an email to The Gazette. “I hope that the FBI investigation is able to swiftly apprehend the people responsible for this act of violence and intimidation.”
