Edmonton - The annual Christmas on the Square Holiday Light Up took place on November 15 in Edmonton's Sir Winston Churchill Square.
Organized by the Downtown Business Association in partnership with the City of Edmonton, the event featured food trucks, roving family entertainment, a main stage, fire pits, and the highlight of the evening: a fireworks display.

Another major part of the light up is flipping the switch to turn on the gigantic Christmas tree at the northwest corner of the square. The tree will light up every evening at dusk through the Christmas season. The tree was donated by Millar Western Forest Products, and installed and decorated by EPCOR. It has over 14,000 LED lights, cascading snowfalls, sparkles, and stars.

The fireworks began right after the tree was lit, and the countdown was led by none other than Santa himself (with the help of Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson)!

Christmas can be a difficult time of the year for many families struggling to get by. As such, Edmonton's Food Bank was on location to accept donations of non-perishable food and cash for people in need.
