Toronto - Ginetta, Canada’s oldest giraffe has died at the Toronto Zoo at the age of 30. Officials at the zoo officials reportedly confirmed the news on Facebook Monday.
“With a heavy heart, we are sad to report that we had to say goodbye to Ginetta this afternoon,” Global News reported.
The female giraffe, was born in 1983 at the Toronto Zoo. She celebrated her 30th birthday in August of last year.
The Star reported zoo officials said a giraffe can only live to 20 to 25 years of age in the wild.
Last October the giraffe became a great aunt to a newborn giraffe calf, “Mstari.”
CBC reported no cause of death was given. Zoo officials noted, however, the animal lived to be older than 96 percent of female Masai giraffes.
