It is believed that Sutton died at Istanbul’s main airport. Sutton was the acting Iraq director for War and Peace Reporting, and she had been travelling to northern Iraq. She had spent years working in Iraq.
The Foreign Office released a statement saying it was providing the family with consular assistance.
Sutton arrived at the airport on Saturday night, after flying in from London. She ended up missing a connecting flight from Turkey at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. However, the airline told her that it wasn’t responsible for her missing the flight and that she would need to buy herself another ticket.
Staff at the airport were told Sutton couldn’t afford to purchase another ticket, and three days later her body was discovered in an airport toilet.
Apparently, Sutton entered the restroom and used her shoelaces to hang herself. The passengers who found her called paramedics. However, they were too late and couldn’t save Sutton’s life.
