Brazil Senate president to be tried for embezzlement: court

The president of Brazil's Senate, Renan Calheiros, will face trial for alleged embezzlement, the Supreme Court said Thursday, the latest development in a political drama threatening to destabilize President Michel Temer.

Supreme Court judges in a ruling upheld charges brought by prosecutors who allege that Temer's major ally Calheiros embezzled public funds.
