Police are investigating suspected embezzlement of subsidies meant for Brazilian athletes competing in next month's Rio Olympics, O Globo television channel reported.
The probe centers on deals signed by sports confederations and SB Marketing e Promocoes, a promotional company, the channel said in a report aired late Sunday.
The marketing firm was hired by the sports ministry to channel subsidies to fund athletes' training, worth around $9 million dollars, it said.
"We are investigating crimes of fraud in a public tender, embezzlement and criminal conspiracy," federal police official Tacio Muzzi said in the report.
He is the top anti-corruption official for the federal police in Olympic host city Rio de Janeiro.
Globo cited the example of suspected irregularities in funding for the Brazilian taekwondo confederation.
It said that body received funding to buy equipment for 15 regional federations but only nine of those received the money allocated.
The channel cited accounts filed by the confederation to the sports ministry.
SB Marketing declined to comment on the report to AFP.
