Reuters reports that the plane went down about 1 km (0.6 miles) from a Libyan parliament building. The crash reportedly happened during a military event in honour of another pilot, whose war plane crashed last week.
Facebook Newswire says that the plane was flying at low altitudes before it crashed into a block of apartments and burst into flames.
The Libyan House of Representatives confirmed that the crash occurred as a result of a technical malfunction.
Little is known about who shot the attached video or where it was taken.
Libya continues to have plenty of problems with violence between jihadists and army officials. Yesterday, 10 Libyan troops in Benghazi were killed clashing with jihadist militants. The insurgents tried to advance on the city’s airport.
About a week previous, a mysterious air raid killed 10 Islamic militants.
Battles continue to play out across the country, especially as Libya’s government recently resigned and militias start to seize control.
