"Why does our daddy need to be in prison for loving Jesus?" That was the question two children asked President Barack Obama in a video about their father, an American citizen who has been imprisoned in Iran since 2012.
The Christian Post reported the children of Christian American-Iranian Pastor Saeed Abedini begged the leader to "bring my daddy home."
The article reported the video has been posted on YouTube Monday, but a search by Digital Journal found other videos about the American pastor but not the one in question.
Rebekkah, Abedini's seven-year-old daughter and Jacob, his six-year-old son both begged President Obama for help on the video. Their father's imprisonment has made international news.
Crying, as she was in bed, Rebekkah told about her many prayers for her father's return. She said God hasn't answered them yet.
"I pray that he comes back home but he is still not back home," she explained.
According to the Christian Post, United States Secretary of State John Kerry said the American government would continue to press for Pastor Abedini's release.
"In Iran, U.S. Iranian citizen Pastor Saeed Abedini remains imprisoned," Kerry added. "The Iranian authorities sentenced him to eight years behind bars simply because of his religious beliefs. We will continue to call for his release and we will continue to work for it.
"And make no mistake: We will continue to stand up for religious minority communities under assault and in danger around the world, from Jehovah's Witnesses to Baha'is to Ahmadi Muslims."
According to the Blaze, Abedini's wife, Naghmeh, had previously been critical of the Obama administration for not doing enough to obtain her husband's freedom.
“I’ve recently heard him make great speeches on Nelson Mandela and people who have been in prison, because of what they believe in and the change they brought to this world,” she said an in interview in December of 2013. “And here’s an American citizen standing up for his faith and rotting in an Iranian prison and yet there’s silence. And silence, for me, speaks volumes.”
According to The Blaze article, it was after the comments that President Obama was vocal at a National Prayer breakfast in February, when he said he would do everything possible to obtain the freedom of the American.
“Today, we call on the Iranian government to release Pastor Abedini," President Obama said at the breakfast.
