article imagePastafarianism now an official religion in Poland

By Eliana Robinson     Apr 12, 2014 in World
The Church of Flying Spaghetti Monster is now accepted as an official religion in Poland after a 2013 ruling was overturned on Tuesday.
The ruling was celebrated by a group of Pastafarians who gathered outside the courthouse on Tuesday and chanted “pasta."
The FSM was first mentioned in 2005, in a satirical letter written by Bobby Henderson to the Kansas School Board of Education. He used the FSM to protest the public teaching of intelligent design in place of evolution.
The supreme being of Pastafarianism is the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM). The main text is the Holy Book of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Pastafarianism opposes the idea of creationism and intelligent design and as a result its tenets are usually satires of creationism.
The main belief is that the invisible and magnificent Flying Spaghetti Monster created the universe after drinking heavily, which is the reason for an imperfect world. Pirates are seen as the original Pastafarians and are divine beings. In Pastafarianism, Heaven has a beer volcano and a stripper factory. Hell has stale beer and all of the strippers have STDs.
On September 19, they celebrate International Talk like a Pirate day. Around the time of Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza, Pastafarians celebrate Holiday. There is no specific day since they do not believe in dogma or formalism. They celebrate “Pastover” as a parody of Passover and “Ramendan” as a parody of Ramadan. Pastafarians believe in lighthearted worship and every Friday is a holy day. All prayers are concluded with “R’amen” instead of amen.
Adherents of this religion take it seriously, but overall Pastafarianism is seen as parody religion.
