Janesville - A Republican candidate for the Wisconsin state assembly has withdrawn from his race over racist and homophobic social media posts.
The Janesville Gazette reports 19-year-old Jacob Dorsey, who was seeking to unseat Rep. Deb Kolste (D-Janesville), dropped out of his race on Tuesday after admitting to posting multiple anti-black and anti-gay remarks on Twitter.
“I have decided to withdraw from the race due to insensitive remarks that have surfaced from years past,” Dorsey told the Gazette. “This race has been extremely hard on my family and myself.”
On September 11, Dorsey apologized for what he called a "hurtful" homophobic tweet.
"Fags need 2 leave my favorite state alone," Dorsey had tweeted last December after a federal judge decided not to stay a ruling invalidating Utah's same-sex marriage ban.
But further disturbing discoveries forced Dorsey to confess to making additional anti-gay, as well as anti-black, social media comments.
TPM reports Dorsey acknowledged making the offensive remarks on Twitter and YouTube after they were discovered by the NOManiacs blog.
"I hate your gay, fag videos," Dorsey said in one missive.
"Niggers trash cars. I'm not selling my Town Car to one," he said in another.
Dorsey even trashed the founder of his own Republican party, writing, "Fuck Abraham Lincoln."
Despite withdrawing from the race, Dorsey's name will remain on the November 4 ballot.
The Republican Party of Rock County has condemned Dorsey's comments and asked him to return a campaign donation, the Gazette reports.
