article imageStephen Colbert: My character believes in the New World Order

By Alex Allen     Mar 3, 2014 in Politics
Comedian Stephen Colbert recently said that his character believes in "conspiracies" like the New World Order, chemtrails and the Bilderberg Group but he doesn't personally know enough about them to formulate an opinion in real life.
If you're familiar with Stephen Colbert you know that he will take advantage of almost every opportunity he gets to hold a mirror up to society. On his Comedy Central program The Colbert Robert, Colbert plays a naive, often narcissistic ultra-conservative who has good intentions but often fails to see the whole picture. He has even taken his character outside of his own show, "roasting" then President George W. Bush at the 2006 White House Correspondent's Dinner and appearing at a congressional hearing on agriculture in 2010.
Despite his use of sarcasm through his character, however, Colbert can sometimes be found in a rare, serious form. Luckily, reporter Luke Rudkowski of We Are Change was able to catch him in one of those moods and got to hear a serious answer to a serious question. Rudkowski, who is on record confronting rich and powerful men like Henry Kissinger about the Bilderberg group, the Illuminati, and the New World Order, pointed out to Colbert that he often brings up some of these very same topics on his show. Rudkowski then asked Colbert what his serious stance was on those issues.
Colbert started off by saying that he never has a "serious take" but that his character believes "anything is possible" and that "each one of those things is a true conspiracy." He then explained that he personally doesn't know enough about the topics to say whether he truly believes them to be legitimate conspiracies but also said he finds "nothing wrong with bringing up the subjects."
We Are Change once asked Colbert at a book signing who he thought was truly behind world policies, to which he jokingly replied, "The Illuminati."
