article imageEdmonton: Raising banners for peace Special

By Paula Kirman     Mar 13, 2014 in Politics
Edmonton - March 12, 2014 was the date of the return home for the final 100 Canadian troops from their military mission in Afghanistan.
Numerous government buildings across the country flew their flags at half mast to honour the sacrifices of life that took place during the 12-year mission, including Edmonton's City Hall.
As a response, the Edmonton Coalition Against War and Racism raised their banners for peace at an information picket near the High Level Bridge in the city's south side. Holding banners with slogans such as "Harper Resign Now" and "Canada Needs and Anti-War Government," members of ECAWAR spoke with passers-by and handed out leaflets concerning the group's views on Canadian foreign policy, which includes the right to self-determination for all countries without western interference.
