article imageOp-Ed: WH Science office credits Trump with 'ending the covid pandemic'

In a press release issued on Tuesday afternoon, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy said that it considered “ending the COVID-19 pandemic” to be one of President Donald Trump’s major first-term accomplishments.
The list of accomplishments in the president's first-term is without a doubt, astounding, detailing some of the “significant investments, accomplishments, policies, and other actions undertaken by President Trump to advance science and technology.”
"The highlights in this report represent just a fraction of the achievements made by the Trump Administration on behalf of the American people,” Kelvin Droegemeier, who heads the office, said in the press release. “We have achieved a proud record of results, and under President Trump’s leadership, science and technology will continue to inspire us, unite us, and guide us to ever greater progress.”
Actually, the bullet point claims that "from the outset," the administration "has taken decisive actions to engage scientists and health professionals in academia, industry, and government to understand, treat, and defeat the disease." So it really does not give Trump credit for ending anything.
But even still, four officials on the White House Coronavirus Task Force were livid after the release of the statement. In speaking with the Daily Beast, one official said "It’s mind-boggling," adding, "There’s no world in which anyone can think that [statement] is true. Maybe the president. But I don’t see how even he can believe that. We have more than 70,000 new cases each day.”
In all seriousness, this so-called press release is just another example of Team Trump's efforts to distort the facts, refusing to acknowledge that the U.S. is experiencing a very dangerous spike in coronavirus cases. And it is another way the president can dupe his loyal followers into believing, he is indeed, the one who can save them.
Over 227,000 people in the U.S. have died from the coronavirus, yet Trump, in all his rallies, has yet to mention the loss of those lives - yet his followers are being led to believe the pandemic is just about over. "We're rounding the corner," says Trump, triumphantly.
Good grief, how stupid can so many people be? Can't they see that Trump and his hand-picked yes-men are living in La-La Land - a real-life reality TV show on another plane?
