article imageOp-Ed: The Russian Winter Olympics non-controversy

By Alexander Baron     Feb 6, 2014 in Politics
The powerful homosexual lobby is doing its best to stigmatise Russia over its so-called "anti-gay" laws. It's time these people learned to shut up.
Once upon a time there was a place called the Soviet Union. Under its dictator Joseph Stalin it murdered tens of millions of people - a fact disputed only by the lunatic fringe. Where were the liberals and the human rights activists while this was happening?
Not so long ago there were two super-powers, now, with the demise of the aforementioned Soviet Union, there is one: the United States. With the decline of the US and the rise of China, that may not be the case for much longer, but in the meantime, the United States is top dog, and the de facto policeman of the world.
Like regular policemen, the US can get away with murder, and because it can, it does. Anyone who isn't sure how and when, think drone programme.
The US Government has been spying on not only its own citizens, but apparently on the entire world, think Edward Snowden. Is anyone boycotting the United States over these matters? which might just be construed as being infinitely more important than the right of organisations like the odious Stonewall to indoctrinate Russian schoolkids with gay lessons under the pretext of combatting homophobic bullying.
Last month, the BBC broadcasted a thinly veiled smear programme on Russia and its leader's principled stand on what has been called traditional sexual relations. One of the people who was interviewed was the Mayor of the host town, Sochi. He was ridiculed by the BBC for claiming there are no homosexuals in the town. The Beeb's reporter actually visited a so-called gay bar in Sochi, and another politician laughed likewise at the claim, saying there were several gay clubs in the town.
And therein lies the refutation of the current barrage of propaganda to which Mother Russia is being subjected. If Russian homosexuals were truly such an oppressed minority, they wouldn't be making so much noise. Nor would they be all over the Web. This site is one of many that has a .ru suffix, so here as in the West, homosexuals are a tiny minority but they make a lot of noise.
Homosexuality is not capital in Russia as it is now in some African and Islamic countries; it is not even illegal. In both the UK and the USA it is a criminal offence to ply the young with cigarettes or alcohol; why shouldn't the Russians adopt the same approach to perverted sex?
The reason, the only reason, the Russians have brought in a law against the promulgation of homosexual "values" to the young is because of the activities of so-called LGBT activists. Margaret Thatcher did something similar during her tenure as Prime Minister. Before then such legislation was not considered because no one could have credited that anything like the current hysteria would come about. What would Martin Luther King have said about it had he not fallen to an assassin's bullet before the birth of the gay revolution?
"when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, and bath-house from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, white men and black boys will be able to join hands and sing in the words of that great LGBT multiracial anthem: Y.M.C.A."
Or would he have said something like: Hate the sin, love the sinner?
King must be turning in his grave, him and not a few others of his mindset from days of yore.
For those misnamed gay rights activists who are intent on stirring up even more trouble, the best advice is don't go looking for it, and it won't come looking for you. You wouldn't go to Saudi Arabia and protest against the alcohol ban. You wouldn't go to China and tell them they can't eat dogs just because most Westerners adopt an overly sentimental attitude to this wolf-like creature in our midst.
When in Rome, do what the Romans do, and when in Russia, have the common courtesy not to insult your host by telling him your morals are better than his, because he probably thinks exactly the same about you, although he will be too polite to say so.
Apart from that, have fun, and as Mr Zappa said, while you're there, "don't eat the yellow snow".
