article imageOp-Ed: Koch brothers donate $25 million to United Negro College Fund

By Larry Clifton     Jun 6, 2014 in Politics
Washington - It's difficult to imagine a more priceless photo than one of Senate Leader Harry Reid’s face upon learning that the billionaire industrialist Koch brothers donated $25 million to United Negro College Fund.
Only a photocopy of Hillary Clinton’s personal check with Monica Lewinsky’s endorsement on the back would top it, politically speaking.
Although most Americans have no idea who the Koch brothers are, let alone why they should hate them, Democrats have spent millions of dollars on attack ads to disparage them and Sen. Reid has viciously attacked their character from the Senate floor. Their crimes? Supporting Republican candidates and being rich.
Unable to comprehend why smearing the Koch brothers is a non sequitur, the Democrats continue to produce expensive attack ads against them, despite the fact that they are not running for public office.
Memo to Democrats: your Koch attacks didn’t pass the smell test before the Charles Koch Foundation donated $25 million to UNCF; however, now the stench would knock a buzzard off a…well, you get the point.
It’s prudent to point out the money donated by Koch Industries Inc. and the Charles Koch Foundation, which are headed by the brothers was well received by UNCF leaders.
The Koch brothers donated $18.5 million to a UNCF scholarship program to aid minority students seeking higher education. The remaining $6.5 million is earmarked as funding to support historically black colleges and universities and the UNCF, including $4 million for student loan assistance.
When Sen. Reid and Democrat midterm candidates consider how to counter the conservative's liberal contribution to the nation’s largest minority education group, there is one way to top the Koch brothers’ generosity to UNCF.
Obviously, the Democrats must fight fire with fire. Here’s what do: go to the DNC’s campaign funding lockbox and extract $30 million set aside to fund Koch brothers attack ads. Set up a press conference with UNCF officials during which Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi as co-masters of ceremonies donate the $30 million to UNCF, thereby topping the Koch brother’s generous act of philanthropy.
After the check is safely deposited in a UNCF bank account, former Secretary of State and perhaps presidential candidate for 2016, Hillary Clinton, could go on Sunday talk shows and exclaim: “what difference does the Koch brothers' $25 million donation make now?”
By implementing the aforementioned plan, everybody wins - especially if Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev) becomes the new Senate minority leader in November.
