article imageOp-Ed: Israel has no respect for the lives of innocent children

By Ben Morris     Aug 1, 2014 in Politics
Tel Aviv - They are supposed to be the good guys. They argue their actions are one of self defense, but anyone who values human life will see Israel does not have a halo above its head.
For two weeks the Israeli government has been bombing Gaza with impunity. Striking nearly every inch of an open air prison, American politicians and apologists who excuse Israel for their war crimes show strong support for a country and a military that shows no remorse when a child loses his or her life.
In a war that is supposed to strike down Hamas, the UN has estimated 80 percent of Palestinians killed in the attacks were innocent men, women, and children who do not belong in any terrorist organization. International law stipulates purposeful civilian deaths is a crime, and the IDF on behest of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are showing the UN may be correct in making such a claim by shelling schools, homes, and hospitals where injured, and homeless Palestinians are trying to stay safe.
The al-Wafa rehab and geriatric hospital in Gaza City was eviscerated by Israeli bombs that attacked all corners of the hospital. Paralyzed and immobile patients were forced from the only rehabilitation center in Gaza. As Dr. Basman Alash told Democracy Now, he was shocked that the hospital was bombed as it was a hospital where anyone was treated. Dr. Alash told Democracy Now "We have not done any harm to anybody, but we try to save life, to give life, to better life to either an Arab Palestinian or an Israeli Jew. Whoever comes to this hospital, we treat him for his humanity, not for his nationality or his religion. "
The IDF bombing of a hospital that treats the sick of any religion or nationality, should not come as a surprise to anyone who has read the constant stream of depressing stories that show children without limbs, and homes without foundation. Israeli's who claim moral superiority over Palestinians have shown the complete opposite.
During the infancy of the war, news outlets showed Israelis on hilltops cheering IDF's bombing campaign in Gaza, and when one reporter had the gall to truthfully call those cheering the bombing "scum," she was removed from the region. No matter what history a people might have with their neighbors, cheering on a war is beyond tasteless, and fundamentally evil. War is not a joke, it is not a game, it is a disease onto a society that continues to spread without a cure. Nothing good comes from war, yet the Israeli's who sit on sofas to watch a bombing campaign like it's a fireworks show, feel joy and solace when lives are shattered.
Even members of Israeli's military are laughing at the deaths of children who have never held guns, or marched into war. One soldier David D. Ovadia gloated to one Instagram user that he killed 13 Palestinian children. In the mind of Ovadia, those children are nothing but ants that should be squashed, sadly his attitude towards human life is not isolated.
Ayelet Shaked of Israel's nationalist Jewish Home party took to Facebook to suggest Israel should kill every Palestinian mother in order to rid Israel of "snakes." In her diatribe, Shaked wrote, "Behind every terrorist stand dozens of men and women, without whom he could not engage in terrorism. They are all enemy combatants, and their blood shall be on all their heads." In no moral society does the sin of a parent justify the death of offspring. Should will kill Gary Ridgeway's son because his father raped and murdered dozens of women? A call for indiscriminate killing does not show bravery or resolve, it shows the world you lack character or respect.
While they cheer on civilian casualties, and endorse genocide, the loudest voices in Israel are proving they are no better than those who attack them. The constant state of war, and Israeli overreaction has stirred more hatred for a country that has gotten away with war crimes for far too long.
Israel constantly denies they commit war crimes, while they kill unarmed civilians. Yet the mainstream media condones these actions, refusing to acknowledge the sins of Israel. Hamas may be a terrorist group with eyes on the destruction of Israel, but when you claim to be the good guy you should not commit actions that are found in the pits of hell.
