Op-Ed: Clinton says US too tough on terrorists; scolds Trump

Clinton complained earlier today that torture would be, “open recruitment poster for more terrorists”. The embattled Democrat, despite conflicting testimony by top military and CIA brass, says torture is not effective.
“Our best and bravest intel and military leaders will tell you torture’s not effective,” Clinton said in an interview on “Good Morning America.” “It puts soldiers and increasingly our own civilians in danger. I do believe we have to give our law enforcement and intelligence professionals all the tools they need to do the job to keep Americans safe. But I don’t think they need to resort to torture.”
Mrs. Clinton is also soft on securing American borders, and is yet to lay out a specific plan to remedy America’s porous borders and vague enforcement policies of the Obama administration, whom she worked for as Secretary of State during the time that ISIS grew strong. For his part, Mr. Obama attended a baseball game in Cuba with Raul Castro while Europe was mopping up from terrorist attacks across Brussels. Regarding national security, from Mrs. Clinton’s distribution of classified and top-secret information over her homebrewed server to Pres. Obama’s refusal to say the words Muslim extremists or Muslim terrorists, millions of Americans aren’t comfortable with the Democratic Party’s weak stance on defending the homeland and its borders.
For his part, Mr. Trump has called for increased border control including construction of an impenetrable wall between Mexico and the US border and believes the US should slow down its open-borders policy and begin a vetting process so that homeland security will know who’s crossing the borders and why. At the same time, Democrats are vying for the votes of as many as 14 million undocumented aliens already in the country. To that end, Democrats are trying to find ways to issue drivers licenses to more and more undocumented immigrants in more and more states. Some say the plan is to eventually create a pathway to allow former undocumented immigrants to vote for Democrats. Already the Democratic Party is actively blocking voter ID laws with lawsuits, protests, and advertisements paid for by lobbyists. At the same time, Pres. Obama is working on closing the US GITMO facility at Guantánamo because he feels the facility causes bad feelings among Muslims.
Meanwhile, in recent months, ISIS has orchestrated attacks in Paris, San Bernardino and now in the political seat of Europe, Brussels, killing scores of citizens in each city and seriously injuring hundreds more. Trump told hosts on “Good Morning America” this morning that he’d use “maximum, maximum interrogation technique” and “waterboarding” on suspected Paris attacker terrorist Salah Abdeslamif he were in U.S. custody. Millions of Americans agree that the US government needs to give the CIA leeway in extracting critical information from captured terrorists.
Mrs. Clinton, who partly presided over the rise of ISIS as US Secretary of State under Obama, has a different take on the war on terrorism that is quickly spreading to countries all over the world. But I don’t think they need to resort to torture.” No terrorist was ever injured at Guantánamo, including by the waterboarding interrogation technique.
It is unclear how Clinton would fight terrorism, but her complacency and incompetency regarding classified information and national security, the foreign policy mess that developed under her nose as Secretary of State and the open FBI investigation that threatens her presidency, give rise to the question. Yesterday Clinton explained that the U.S. has to “intensify and broaden our strategy” in America’s fight against ISIS, without giving specifics.

Also yesterday, Bill Clinton gave his wife and Excedrin headache, so to speak, at an event in Spokane, Washington, where he publicly called for putting “the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us and the seven years before that, where we were practicing trickle-down economics with no regulation in Washington….” With his wife dependent on Obama’s US Attorney Loretta Lynch not indicting her should the FBI call for that action, Mr. Clinton might want to consider sticking to Trump-bashing and hope the chips fall exactly where his wife wants them to land.
