Denver - A 19-year-old resident of the northern Denver suburb of Arvada has been arrested on charges of helping the jihadist ISIS guerrillas sweeping Iraq.
The Denver Post said Shannon Maureen Conley, a Muslim convert, was arrested while trying to board a plane for turkey in April.
FBI spokesman Dave Joly said the arrest of the home grown terrorist was only revealed Wednesday because it was an “ongoing active investigation.”
It was not clear that Conley had ruled out attacks in Colorado, though no plans were found.
Agents had been following Conley for eight months, and they had met with her and told her she was going to be arrested if she continued her activities. Agents even met with her parents.
She had links with ISIS, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
Conley reportedly met a jihadist man online , and subsequently joined the U.S. Army Explorers to be trained in military tactics and military weapons.
The FBI first became of Conley when a church security guard reported her taking notes in what looked like it might be a preparation for an attack.
The licensed nurse's aide told investigators she hated “those people” and “if they think I’m a terrorists, I’ll give them something to think I am.” She also said U.S. military bases were targets.
When her activities began to appear more extreme her parents contacted the FBI again. She said she was planning to fly to Syria to marry a Tunisian working to overthrow the Syria government..
CDs and DVDs carrying propaganda calling for the death of infidels was found in her luggage.
Given that the ISIS map doesn't even include Italy, or Rome, Italians probably need not fear being captured.
