Woman posts Facebook plea for someone to come kill her dog

According to My San Antonio, the Troup, Texas woman wrote on her Facebook page, “I need someone to come shoot my dog, nobody here has the heart do it!. We will provide the gun!,” say authorities in the small, East Texas town.

The social media post prompted a backlash of responses from Facebook users, and many requests for someone, anyone to go get the dog, a St. Bernard/English bulldog mix named Cinnamon. Nicholas Pet Haven in Tyler, Texas posted: “URGENT FOSTER REQUEST!!! The owner of this dog is threatening to shoot it because it gets into the trash!!!

What’s worse is that the story reached the U.K., where readers of the story in the Mirror were of the consensus that this could only happen in America. One comment reads: “Will provide the gun”!! Americans! 🙁

When Nicholas Pet Haven and animal control officers went to the woman’s house to pick up Cinnamon, they were told the woman could no longer care for the three-year-old dog, and it kept getting into the trash.

“It’s devastating,” said Nanette Moss, the Smith County animal shelter director. “I work with these dogs every day. They are my life, and when she walked through my door it just broke my heart. She’s a sweet dog and how can somebody shoot a sweet dog?”

CBS19 reported the dog, Cinnamon was given a clean bill of health after bringing her shots up to date and spaying her. The station says that when the woman’s post went up on Facebook Thursday morning, they began getting calls about the post.

The station tracked down where in Troup the woman lived and sent a reporter to the residence. The woman and her son answered the door, and the son told the CBS19 reporter, “I know how the media works. You people are the f****ng devil.”

Authorities say the woman will not face charges because she surrendered the dog to animal control officers. Seeing as she is not facing charges, CBS19 would not give out the woman’s name.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear friend Karen Graham, who served as Editor-at-Large at Digital Journal. She was 78 years old. Karen's view of what is happening in our world was colored by her love of history and how the past influences events taking place today. Her belief in humankind's part in the care of the planet and our environment has led her to focus on the need for action in dealing with climate change. It was said by Geoffrey C. Ward, "Journalism is merely history's first draft." Everyone who writes about what is happening today is indeed, writing a small part of our history.
