One diver came across the creature near Kapalai, a sandbar. The reason why the slug has two heads may be due to a birth defect or even because of pollution.
Not only does the slug, or nudibranch, have two heads, but it has both male and female sex organs because these types of slugs are hermaphrodites.
The slug is around an inch long and it is part of the species nembrotha kubaryana. The slug is known for its neon colors, which warns predators of their toxicity. As for what they feed on, they eat tiny creatures that have bag-like bodies. These creatures are called sea squirts.
They remove the sea squirts’ chemical compounds, which are then stored inside the slugs, and then when they are threatened by predators, the chemicals are exuded as a slimy mucus.
The slug was discovered by Nash Baiti, the dive master, and he found it while he was working for Scubazoo, a film company. He was working on a series called Borneo from Below.
Baiti showed the creature to a nudibranch expert and marine biologist by the name of Clay Bryce, who said he had never seen a two-headed marine creature like what Baiti showed him. He added that he had spent 10,000 hours underwater chasing these types of slugs.
