Warsaw - A church congregation and the employees of a strip club have been protesting each other’s establishments for years. The strippers plan on escalating the fight this Sunday by protesting topless.
The owner of the Foxhole North has repeatedly sought injunctions against the church protesters, which have been denied by the area’s judges. The owner has asked for the protesters to be kept 100 feet away from his property. Thomas George, the owner, said
Everyone has the right to express their first amendment rights and views, but at what point does it become just flat out harassment with what goes on.
George has apologized in advance to innocent bystanders and locals that may see more than they normally would on their Sunday morning drive. His main worry is any children that may see the bared breasts on their way to Sunday School.
The church has protested the club for eight years and believes that the battle’s publicity is helping to grow the congregation. The pastor said
Every time they show up at our church, it just strengthens our ministry.
In the past, the dancers have shown up to protest in bikinis. Ohio’s public decency laws regulate genitalia, not breasts. So the women should be legally in the clear if they follow through with their threat. The club’s owner has indicated that any arrests will be fought in court.
A married mother-of-six who happens to work at the club and attended a previous protest said
These church people say horrible things about us… They say we’re homewreckers and whores. The fact of the matter is, we’re working to keep our own homes together, to give our kids what they need.
In past protests, the exotic dancers have held signs with biblical phrases and sprayed each other with water guns.
