article imageSix-fingered family predicting sixth FIFA World Cup for Brazil

By Igor I. Solar     Jun 26, 2014 in Odd News
Rio De Janeiro - The hands of a whole family have become a lucky charm in support of the Brazilian national team achieving its sixth FIFA World Cup. What distinguishes the members of the Silva family is that everyone has six fingers on each hand.
As a result of a genetic condition, known as polydactyly the Silva family has six fingers on each hand and some of the family members have even six toes.
Polydactyly is a congenital abnormality that occurs in humans, but it is also relatively common in other mammals such as dogs and cats. In humans, the hereditary condition has an incidence of one in every 1,000 live births.
Far from choosing to hide the abnormality, the Silva family wants to show their support for the 'Seleção' and are crossing their fingers to wish their team luck in its effort to win the sixth soccer world crown for the 'Verde-Amarela' (The Green and Yellow)
The unusual talisman has become a mass phenomenon in Brazil.
