article imagePuerto Rican woman attends her own wake in style

By Anne Sewell     May 29, 2014 in Odd News
According to her wishes, an 80-year-old Puerto Rican woman attended her own wake this week, sitting in her favorite rocking chair, wearing her gown from her second marriage and surrounded by flowers and plants.
Georgina Chervony Lloren passed away on Sunday and the family followed her wishes for her wake to a fault.
According to her daughter, Miriam Chervony, the 80-year-old had specified that she wanted to be seated in her favorite rocking chair at the wake, wearing her gown from her second marriage, 32 years ago. As can be seen in the photo above, she also wished to be surrounded by flowers and plants.
Apparently the Marin Funeral Home in San Juan, where the wake was held, is known for unusual wakes, so this was nothing really new to them. In the past, a wake was held for a former boxer, in which he was memorialized, standing with family in a mock-up boxing ring, a photo of which can be seen here.
