article imageOp-Ed: Male model walks for three hours in NYC and videotapes catcalls

By Scott Tuttle     Nov 1, 2014 in Odd News
New York - After last week's viral video of actress Shoshana Roberts walking through New York City and facing over 100 aggressive catcalls, another ambitious film making group tried to replicate the video substituting Roberts for a handsome male model.
Model Pranksters, as the name implies, is a film making organization that sends male models to play tricks on people while another crew member secretly videotapes it. Most of their stunts focus on people's general reactions to "hot model types."
Inspired by the Hollaback! video featuring the attractive Shoshana Roberts walking through New York City for 10 hours as men made passes at her and even went so far as to physically follow her, Model Pranksters sent one of their own male models on an abridged 3-hour copycat mission.
In the video, the model immediately turns heads getting his share of catcalls from both men and women. At one point, a jealous boyfriend has to forcefully turn his girlfriend the other way as she can't stop staring at the passing pretty boy.
According to Model Pranksters, their actor got hit on 30 times in three hours, which is arguably proportional to Roberts' 100 catcalls in 10 hours.
It is clear from the intro to the video featuring the group's founder Coby Persin that the intent was to debunk the Hollaback! video by proving that the same thing happens to attractive men as he used the word "harassment" in air quotes several times before presenting the footage.
Assuming that nothing in this video was fabricated, it would in fact prove that a handsome man faces a certain degree of his own "harassment," which deserves recognition and should be addressed just as we should address sexual harassment against women. However, making the case that the man in this video faced the same level of sexual harassment as Shoshana Roberts is difficult, as the not-so-secret admirers in the Hollaback! video appeared much more invasive and aggressive.
Perhaps a full 10-hour video to match that of Hollaback! would have been more telling.
