Officials trying to find out why city smells like cat urine

By Owen Weldon     Nov 27, 2014 in Odd News
New Castle - Residents of New Castle, Pennsylvania, hope that some air sample tests will reveal why their city smells like cat urine.
Residents started to smell the urine stench about three weeks ago. They say the smell is still lingering near a treatment plant, according to CBS.
State environmental officials said they don't believe the odor is harmful, but as of now they still don't know what's cause it.
Environmental officials performed some on-site monitoring and hazardous substances in the air were not detected, says a spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Officials used a device to take atmospheric samples during the times that the odors were at their strongest. During visits, the DEP took monitored readings of lower explosive limits, as well as oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide and volatile organic compounds.
Some residents have blamed the odor on feral cats that may be living near the waste management facility. Other residents have put the blame on the sewage plant itself, saying it is just natural odors the plant is producing.
Residents will have to wait a few more weeks before testing is completed and the results are revealed.
